THE FLAME TREE RESTAURANT
The Flame Tree Restaurant is our forte. Our cooking can best be described as “modern Portuguese”, which means a cuisine based in Portuguese and Madeiran culture, with some French and Italian influences. We tend to focus on local, seasonal produce wherever possible. Our wine-list is carefully chosen and features some of the best wines that Portugal has to offer at all price ranges.
For dinner we run a short à la carte menu plus daily specials, which often feature more traditional specialities. We try to offer a reasonable range of vegetarian dishes as well. At lunchtimes we provide salads, sandwiches and bar snacks. Monday night is Gala Night, with a special five-course menu and live entertainment.
We have a small dining room and a large outside terrace, which is used for breakfast year-round and for dinner for most of the year. All our service is waiter service – with no buffets.
Our standard breakfast is a simple, but fresh, continental breakfast. For a supplement you can purchase a cooked breakfast or home-made muesli and yoghurt. If you book directly with us, you can discuss your preferred breakfast and we will tailor-make it for you, which we do with many of our repeat customers.
We are happy to discuss any dietary requirements, preferably prior to your arrival. We can also cater for groups with dedicated menus, if desired.

Vila Camacho is located in an elevated position, with lovely views, overlooking the Bay of Funchal. We are in a residential district, about 2km from the city centre, which is roughly 25 minutes away on foot and 5-10 minutes away by car. Bus 45 stops about 75 metres away from the hotel. There is a licensed radio taxi office located less than 10 metres away from our front entrance.
We are also 400m from the Barreiros football and sports stadium, home to Maritimo football club, and 600m from the Clube Naval swimming and health club. The Lido swimming complex is 1km away. We are 6km from Palheiro golf course.
Directions to Vila Camacho:
By car. From the airport take the Via Rapida, which is the main road from the airport, to Funchal.
The exit you need is São Martinho. It is about 0.5km after the "C. do Pilar / Pico dos Barcelos" exit.
The exit road will lead you to a roundabout. Take the first right.
This leads to a T-junction. Turn left.
You will come to another roundabout after about 300m. Turn left.
Keep going straight on, about 0.5km, until you see a big supermarket called SÁ on your left.
Immediately after the supermarket, turn right.
You will then be on Avenida Estados Unidos da America. Keep going for about 1,5km until you come to a corner which looks over the whole Bay of Funchal.
You will then see a large hotel, Hotel Panorâmico, on your left.
About 100m further on you will see Vila Camacho. The entrance is up a small flight of stairs. You can park on the main road. Parlking is free
If you are not coming by car, then we recommend getting a taxi straight from the airport. It will cost about €30. Otherwise, you can catch the "Aerobus" bus service from t.he airport to Funchal city centre and then take bus 45 from there to Vila Camacho. Ask the driver to tell you when to get off. (If they do not know Vila Camacho it is very close to the Panoramico Hotel)
